We're Hosting a BRA-MAKING Workshop!!

attn: This workshop has SOLD OUT!!  We hope to be hosting more in the future, so please stay tuned!

The Ottawa Garment Guild is proud to host Professional Bra Maker, Pat Stephens of BoobieTraps, for our January workshop!

Pat is from Powassan, Ontario, a small town just south of North Bay. A sewist for many years, she learned to make her own bras in the mid 1990s through instructor Beverly Johnson, Owner and Operator of Bra Makers Supply in Hamilton Ontario, and known world-wide as the “Fairy BraMother’.

Upon retirement in 2014, Pat started her small home business making custom bras and swimwear by opening BoobieTraps. Today, she has completed several professional bra making courses through Beverly Johnson’s Professional Bra Making School in Hamilton, Ontario and maintains a steady stream of clients looking for custom bras and swimwear, and students taking bra making classes.

In this 2-day course students will follow Beverly Johnson’s approach to make her PinUp Girls Classic Bra Pattern. This bra is a full band bra with a 2-piece cup and once you learn the steps of making this bra, you can adapt this pattern to have many different looks and seam lines which can totally change the look of the bra.

Each student will receive a Bra Kit (white) that includes the necessary fabrics and findings to learn to make a bra.

Pat fits each student for underwires and for any needed personalized pattern adjustments. Along with the bra kit and one set of wires, each student receives a copy of the multi-sized PinUp Girls’ Classic Bra pattern and instruction sheets for making a complete bra.

To ensure that you are getting the best fit and learning experience, class sizes are being kept small.

Lunch is not provided, however a break will be made so you can eat your packed lunch or purchase lunch in the area.

***Students must be able to sew at an intermediate level (if you can set a sleeve, you should do fine sewing a bra). ****

The Guild is grateful for the continued support of our success by Darrell Thomas Textiles, which has agreed to allow the use of the learning space at the store (153 Preston St.) for the duration of both course sessions.

Thank you to Darrell and all of the store staff!

OGG Members - keep an eye out on your email in the next day or two for details of how to sign up!

OGG Members will receive first opportunity to register for the course, as a benefit of membership!  Any remaining spots available in a week's time will be opened via the general mailing list.

Thank You!!

I want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who attended our first season of meetings.  Your enthusiasm for the OGG has been so wonderful.  I was not at all expecting the response we got - we finished the year with 50 members!!  Amazing!  I also want to say a huge thank-you to Crystal, Kate, Gemini, Vicki, Sam, and Beth for being the best first executive team I could have asked for.  You've all been a treat to work with, and there is no way I could have gotten this Guild off the ground without you.  Looking forward to working with you all in planning next year <3

Hope you all enjoy your summer!  We'll start up the next season of OGG meetings in September on the second Thursday of every month, with our first meeting being on September 13th.
